The 7 common 6 step mistakes and how to fix them:
Mistake #1: Going into a crab position/tabe top position when you are in the front position of your footwork.
Fix: Make sure to keep sitting on your heels and stay on your toes when in the front. Don’t allow your hips to drop down and arms get to far behind you
Mistake #2: Reaching too far away from your body
Fix: When placing your hand down, make sure your shoulder and hand are in as straight of a line as possible to get the most leverage when using your arms for the 6 step
Mistake #3: Stepping to far away from your body
Fix: When stepping in a given direction, make sure to only step far enough where your shoulder and hand remains in a straight line. This will allow you to get the most leverage for your arms
Mistake #4: Using 2 arms too early
Fix: Place both arms down ONLY while in the frog position or all 4’s position
Mistake #5: Not stepping in front of your arm when coming to the front of your 6 step
Fix: When in the all 4’s position, make sure your first step towards the front is in front of your hand that is on the ground. This will place your body in a good position to get back to neutral
Mistake #6: Raising or lowering your hips
Fix: Keep your hips level by making sure your weight is distributed between your arm and your legs
Mistake #7: Going too fast before you have the technique down
Fix: Make sure you practice the movement slowly to understand the technique first, then you can pick up the tempo as long as you maintain your form
