The sweep drill will not only teach you how to transition in and out of both sweeps, but it will also train you to understand how to distribute your weight properly in order to change your sweeping leg.
Tips for practicing the sweep drill:
- Make sure the leg that is not sweeping is taking all of the weight so your sweeping leg is free to move however you want
- Make sure to return to a neutral position sitting on your heels and on your toes vs. going flat footed
- Practice the slow two 8 count drill first and make sure you understand the transitions from each leg and each sweep
- Only move to the faster 8 count drill once you can do the two 8 count drill with close to perfect technique
- Once you understand and master both drills, start to practice doing multiple sweeps and then changing what kind of sweep or what leg you are sweeping in different orders.
